About us

Oyiti Foundation

Our mission is to foster resilience, build strong communities, and provide resources that address mental health, addiction, and alcoholism.

At Oyiti Foundation, we understand the challenges faced by our communities. The pressures of adapting to a new cultural environment, intergenerational conflicts, and systemic barriers can often lead to mental health struggles and feelings of isolation. That’s why we are here to provide support, education, and opportunities for connection.

Our programs and initiatives include mental health workshops, culturally sensitive training, and events that celebrate the rich diversity of our communities. Whether it’s through our Mental Health Awareness Education or our community-focused events like the Oyiti Cup, we strive to create spaces where individuals feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Explore our range of services, including training programs designed to equip families and caregivers with the skills to identify and address early warning signs of mental health issues, addiction, and suicidal thoughts. Together, we aim to create a community that supports one another and fosters a sense of belonging.

Join us in building a brighter, healthier future. Together, we can nurture hope, growth, and understanding for generations to come.

Mental well-being of African-Australian young !

That’s a great priority to have! Prioritizing the mental well-being of African-Australian young people is crucial for their overall development and success. By focusing on their mental health, you can help create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes their emotional well-being and resilience. It’s important to provide resources, support networks, and opportunities for them to thrive and reach their full potential.

Resources

Fundraising

Our funding comes from grant acquisition, governmental programmed support, and the public. We are a not-for-profit and are still establishing our official charitable status and Deductible Gift Recipient capability. The work we will do is vital but requires resources. Every little bit helps.

Our People

As with any important endeavour, the people involved are the most important predictors to success. Our people come from a diverse career backgrounds, cultures and experience, but all share the common commitment to do whatever it takes to achieve the Foundation’s lofty goals.

The Village

We are uniquely placed to engage the African-Australian community in developing further the ‘Village” paradigm in its role to develop programs and approaches to working together in our part in this current wave of crises.

Programs

Our programs are the means, not the ends. We do not exist to run programs. They are merely how we help in a cohesive and organised way. At all times, the driver behind our program development is the needs of those we serve, and the achievement of our mandate.

Believe in Yourself Be the Best You Can Be

The current mental health crisis gripping the world grips culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities even tighter.
For the African community within Australia, there is a significant impact that is not alleviated simply by the existence of funding and programs alone.
