The Oyiti Foundation for Multicultural Youth Inc. was established with the goal of supporting multicultural communities in Victoria, particularly the African and South Sudanese Australian populations. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by these communities, we aim to provide tailored support and resources that bridge cultural gaps and promote mental well-being.
Our organization was founded in response to the growing need for culturally relevant mental health education and support services. We understand that stigma and a lack of accessible resources often prevent individuals from seeking help. By working closely with community leaders, mental health professionals, and local organizations, we ensure that our programs are effective, inclusive, and impactful.
Our core objectives include:
Through collaboration and commitment, the Oyiti Foundation is dedicated to creating a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background.
The Foundation recognises the tragedy of Mental Health problems, and the resulting trend in suicide especially within the African-Australian Community. We exist to help bridge the gap between existing Mental Health services and this unique community. Everything we do is geared towards increasing awareness, developing solutions and saving lives
Knowledge and understanding are powerful tools in managing mental health and achieving better outcomes. Our focus is to tailor, or create afresh, programs and resources that stimulate dialogue and connection within African-Australia, and address the specific shortfalls in current practices. We unashamedly aim for ZERO suicide.
Our unique and intimate perspective on Mental health within Australian-African youth informs and guides our ongoing development of bespoke, powerful programs to achieve deep engagement. Through such deep engagement, effective solutions will be found and the lives of our precious rising generation saved.
The current mental health crisis gripping the world grips culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities even tighter. For the African community within Australia, there is a significant impact that is not alleviated simply by the existence of funding and programs alone.
That’s a great priority to have! Prioritizing the mental well-being of African-Australian young people is crucial for their overall development and success. By focusing on their mental health, you can help create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes their emotional well-being and resilience. It’s important to provide resources, support networks, and opportunities for them to thrive and reach their full potential.
We exist to help bridge the gap between existing Mental Health services and this unique community. Everything we do is geared towards increasing awareness.
